Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra
The Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra is an independent ensemble of 32 professional musicians that launched the critically acclaimed summer music festival Summermusik in August, 2015. The CCO offers a fun and informative musical experience in an intimate and informal setting. The CCO’s size allows for creativity in programming; presenting orchestral works ranging from Baroque and Classical eras to commissioned works by contemporary composers. Collaborations are a hallmark of the CCO, including partnerships with CET, Cincinnati Ballet, and the Cincinnati Art Museum. Summermusik concerts are presented in venues all around Greater Cincinnati, and the festival has experienced unprecedented growth under Music Director Eckart Preu. CCO's newest annual program, We Are One, is an equity-focused series that launched in 2022.
Queen City Opera
Queen City Opera is performing Johann Sebastian Bach’s Coffee Cantata. Like Bach and Beethoven, Artistic Director and Founder Isaac Selya, very much enjoys coffee; he drinks at least one 32oz French press every day. He made his German debut conducting the world-famous Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen in fall 2018. He has been a featured Spotlight Artist in Musical America, and has guest conducted the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Xiamen Philharmonic in China, the National Symphony of Guatemala, and Pacific Opera Project, where he led the Los Angeles stage premiere of Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta. For the Glimmerglass Festival, he coached and conducted the first-ever reading of the revised version of Philip Glass’s Appomattox, with the composer present. He was recently named an inaugural conducting associate at the Defiant Requiem Foundation, which presents performances of Verdi’s Requiem in commemoration of artists interested at the Terezín Ghetto, who performed Verdi’s Requiem in defiance of the Nazis.
The Faux Frenchman
Gypsy Jazz at 4:45pm
The Faux Frenchmen are acoustic guitarists Brian Lovely and George Cunningham, acoustic bassist Don Aren, and violinist Paul Patterson. They’ve played Hot Club-driven gypsy jazz in and around Cincinnati and the Eastern and Midwestern U.S. since 2002.
Guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grappelli fronted the Quintette of the Hot Club of France in and around Paris from 1934 to 1939, and constituted the first generation of European jazz musicians. The Hot Club blended backgrounds in traditional gypsy and European popular and classical music with the then-new sounds of American jazz artists like Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong , Fats Waller, and Benny Goodman to create a new musical genre, now often called "gypsy jazz."
New Chamber Music Collective at 8:30pm
New Downbeat is a new music collective featuring women musicians who perform works exclusively by living composers. Founded in 2019 by bassoonist Caroline Sackleh, New Downbeat began as a group of likeminded, classically trained musicians and composers who wanted more - to create performance opportunities that celebrate women’s musicianship and to collaborate with living composers to create something special, together. Since its inaugural concert in 2019, New Downbeat has commissioned, collaborated on, and performed over 40 new music premieres written by their Composers-in-Residence.
